The Little Flower Monsters

Well after all the effort that went into the Perfect Playdate blog a few days ago, we had a very disappointed playmate.  Unfortunately the eagerly anticipated playdate was cancelled due to an outbreak of tonsillitis!!!

With all preparations already in situ, we went ahead with one of the craft projects alone. This was the outcome...
The Little Flower Monsters

This project is a result of a new found imagination of monsters.  Apparently we have lots of them living in our house; in the oven, down the toilet, under the bed, behind the curtains.  They especially like the dark apparently.  The problem with monster mayhem is that somebody gets scared!  She even had her first nightmare a week ago.

So how do we make monsters less scary.  Well I tried the line 'we only scare because we care' line courtesy of our friends at Monsters Inc, but she didn't seem to understand this!  So I thought we could make Little Flower Monsters.  These are nice friendly monsters who can keep watch at night time and scare all the big monsters away.

So if you have a little frightful friend who also needs a little something to watch over them, this is the 'create with a mate' activity for you.

You will need:
Lollipop sticks
Selection of paints
Coloured paper or card
Felt (corresponding colours)
Monster eyes
Sequins
Sellotape
Tea light
Scissors
Glue
Pencil

Step 1.
Paint each lollipop stick a different colour, then leave to dry.  We chose pink (always the first choice), blue, green and yellow.

Concentrate
Step 2.
Fold 4 different pieces of coordinating coloured paper into four.

Then using a compass (or as I did sellotape and tea light), using a pencil mark, make a big circle template and a smaller circle inside.

SCISSOR SAFETY WARNING - I did all the cutting.

Cut slits (approx 1-2cm apart) all around from the outside to the inner smaller circle on the inside.

Step 3.
Divide all four paper circles, then pile four different colours on top of each other, gluing as you go.  This becomes the flower part.  Each pile should have a different colour on top.  Then stick each pile onto the corresponding lollipop stick.

Step 4.
Using a compass (or tealight) to make a small circle on the four pieces of coordinating felt, then cut out.

Step 5.
Glue the monster eyes onto the felt faces.

Step 6.
Stick the felt monster faces onto the paper flowers.

Mummy they are not scary!  They are laughing.
 Step 7.
Lets make them sparkle.  We stuck sequins on our stems.

The Little Flower Monsters are complete - Congratulations!

Now they sit protectively on the mantelpiece in her bedroom always alert for any monster mayhem!

Sometimes they come out to play too.

Nice to see you again
Xxx.
